Hello again my fellow Hartford Society members! I come to you today with a review of a little Mexican restaurant in West Knoxville. This restaurant was an unfortunate experience. It seems like the food was designed for people who have never eaten at a Mexican restaurant before. Perhaps, like a cocoon prepares a transforming caterpillar into a beautiful butterfly, Chez Guevara was meant as a sort of introductory phase for people who are just entering the world of eating "non-Chipotle/Qdoba/Quesadilla as a meal" Mexican cuisine. For this purpose, it serves well.
As a Mexican restaurant, you are better off going to anywhere else. The establishment was like a Mexican TGI Friday's, with kitschy decor covering every free inch of the wall and inaudible music whispering softly in the background. The layout of the tables is clearly designed to pack as many people in as possible. I could have easily eaten out of the plate of the person at the next table over but their dish looked like it had a lot of onions and I don't care for onions, so I refrained from doing so.
The service was also sub-par, perhaps due to the seating arrangement, and the overall quality of the food was disappointing. It is clear that the stunning reviews this establishment gets are by people who have never eaten Mexican food, or potentially food altogether.
As for pricing, it was far too expensive for what it was.
Overall Hartford Score of 12/75.
